ARNE K. KEMP

-SAVANNAH-Arne K. Kemp, of The Landings, died peacefully on November 12, 2007 at Hospice Savannah.

Arne was born on March 15, 1918 in Finland to Jonas and Tilda Kemp and was reared in Hibbing, Minnesota. As a youth he was a member of the DeMolay International. He served honorably as a Lieutenant JG A1 in the United States Navy during World War II as a pilot. Arne received a Bachelors degree from the University of Georgia, a Masters degree from Duke University, and his PhD from the University of Minnesota. He was elected to membership in Phi Kappa Phi, Gamma Alpha, and Xi Sigma Pi. Arne had a distinguished career in academia and the public sector, retiring in 1985. He served as Associate Professor at Louisiana State University, Professor and Department Head at Stephen F. Austin University, and Assistant Director at North Central Experiment Station-U.S. Department of Forestry. His favorite pastimes were creating intricate works of art with exquisite woods and playing golf. He is survived by his beloved wife Marie and his two sons, John Kemp of Los Angeles, California and Dr. Kenneth Kemp & his wife Dianne and daughter Ashley of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

A memorial service will be held at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. and internment will follow in Metter, Georgia.
